This car has a number of problems, one of which was
it's previous owners "maintenance" techniques
or lack there of. The car has a number of rust spots.
It came with a nice black interior, which was promptly
removed and placed in the 70 Chevelle, it has been replaced
with Bob's old blue interior. It runs, though it was
sorely in need of new plugs & plug wires, not to
mention an oil change.
The last time we were actively updating the site, Bob
was in the middle of fixing the problems with this car.
Well the car was sold to us for bout 1,500.00 and we
were told it had a 350ci and 350 turbo tranny. About
three months later the motor stalled and never started
again. So the project was put on hold til a replacement
engine could be found. Our neighbor came across a good
deal one day. He was taking an 85 Camaro and was prepping
it for a small block, when he found an 84 Firebird with
a running motor and tranny. He bought it and took the
tranny which he needed and sold me the motor.
This was a score for my wife and I since we'd been
looking for a good running motor. So the motor was pulled
and put in her car along with a good running 350 tranny.
The motor is an 82 305ci, with a non stock camshaft,
for mild performance. We gave 300.00 for the motor,
100.00 for the tranny w/converter. We reused the belts
and brackets from her old motor, which was a 307, not
a 350 like we'd been told. The fan needed to be replaced
so we bought a used flex fan from a gentleman on Ebay
for 10.00. Also purchased an aluminum intake for 45.00
that had been sandblasted and painted a nice light grey
color. Upgraded the older style points distributor to
a more reliable easier HEI, we got this from a wrecking
yard for about 50.00, came complete with wires, coil,
and wire dress kit.
The next thing that needs to be done on the car is
weatherstripping and rust hole patching. The windshield
was cracked from the driver's side to the passenger's
side, so thanks to Speedy Auto Glass, we got it replaced
in a timely fashion. We plan to upgrade the front end
with big block coil springs, polyuerthane bushings,
moog ball joints, and disc brakes. We had a set of Camaro
ralleys laying around so we traded them for a frame
that had an SS front end. So I took off the spindles,
calipers, and rotors and stored them for the brake upgrade.
Will also be getting the power booster to complete the
package. We just replaced the door pins today, the wife
was tired of getting spanked by the door when she was
loading the groceries in. Well that's all for now folks,
stay tuned for more updates as they occur. Be sure to
check back often. Thanks for stopping by.
